If you are reading this my post on a computer or even smartphone there is an excellent chance that you are wearing, or within arm’s reach of, a pair of headsets or ear buds. Currently typing this while listening to A Pass’ “Nva Kampala” album. But away from that, you all know that it has become a culture and worldwide social trend now for people to wear ear headsets (headphones) or like how they are commonly referred to as “ear phones” wherever they go. In other words, it’s safe to say, these pair of hearing companionships like we had an “English student’s companion” book to help us become better at the language and how it is expressed, in the same way headsets have become an integral part of our daily lives. You see, you might sometimes just want to lose yourself in your music, what better way to do it than by using earphones?

Earphones are great to use while listening to music or when you wish to study; most especially when you want to listen to an audio book which really comes in handy most especially in scenarios where you want to read a book but do not have the time, you can just plug in your headsets and get on with an audio book instead.

Whereas a vast majority of people use them to help them relax, some others argue it out that earphones help tune out the world while they walk down the street, shop at a grocery shop, or are even travelling so that way they are able to turn off themselves from any form of distraction be it from the eternal environment or even from the within since the mind’s tuned onto whatever they are listening to. It could be a podcast, a music album, song or even an audio book. Some people of the working class claim that wearing headphones has always pushed them to be more productive at work turning out office noise and helping them to focus and concentrate better.

Not only for music, but earphones are incredibly beneficial. Because they make your hands free while you are busy working and have an important call to attend to (most come with receivers which you simply press so as to return a call). Headsets also free your hands so that you can work, take notes and do a myriad of other things while you are on phone.

It is also very recommended to have your headsets while in public places so as to avoid inconveniencing others. This is because of the sensitivity of some of these places, say a case of a library or reading room, elevator or any place that all of a sudden always requires an expected degree of silence. You might love that new song by Justin Bieber but not everyone does, so all I am saying in a nutshell is Enjoy your music without bothering others (playing it loudly) along the way because it is really irritating and an evasion of someone’s space in some type of way. Therefore, always bear in mind that your favorite might not be everyone’s favorite, so plug your earphones in so you avoid becoming a public nuisance as you enjoy your music or whichever audio you wish to listen to. This might not be your fault that your music’s too loud, it could have been caused because of owning a pair that’s of poor quality. So, here’s a few qualities of what to look out when choosing earpieces in the shopping mall;

Sound quality – arguably the most important spec to look out for.

Portability

Durability – headsets that last is everyone’s dream however their life span is quite unpredictable. So, you just have to handle them carefully so they can serve you for a longer period of time.

Cable length – the headsets must be long enough to suit your condition. A very lengthy one can affect sound quality though, so it is very advisable you buy pieces with a fair cable length and for the case that its too short, you may purchase a headset mini extension wire to compliment the one you have.

Purpose. For producers, music makers or even disk jockeys, bigger headphones are required since they deal a whole big volume of sound, have to listen to their music at high volumes and usually bass therefore there is less likely chances of them buying smaller headsets. However, for a student who needs earphones for study, portable and light weighted ones would be preferred since they are light.

Fit and comfort – being that we wear earphones for long periods of time, it is recommended you first try on a pair when you go to buy, so if you are comfortable a particular pair while its on, on your ears, you can go ahead and purchase it.

Price – this goes back to personal beliefs and levels of income. Whereas there are those who would prefer Beatsbydre headphones because of their branding and sophisticated cost, there are those others who would not really mind about the brand of headsets they are having on them and settle for any available so long as they are playing their role of aiding their music listening experience and are fairly affordable.

Now that you have found out what to consider while choosing a type or choice of headsets to purchase, its only human that I share some few key headsets etiquette to be followed as you make the most of your newly acquired head pieces;

  1. Set minimal volumes so as to avoid becoming an annoying factor to your neighbor as you commute or the person seated next to you in the library; plus, you’ll have done your poor eardrums a big favor.
    When speaking to someone, it is only human and prudent that you put your headsets off. It looks very rude being talked to by someone and somehow you seem too focused on what you are listening to.
  2. While plugged in. try as much as you can to not hum or sing along. You can’t hear yourself so you’re probably ruining a perfectly good song by singing or humming along in public. Keeping in mind that when your headsets are plugged in, your voice is most probably very loud when you try to let out any words from your mouth, since you tune yourself basing on the volume of what you are listening to thinking that you are not being any audible hence being too loud and ruining the moment for everyone around you.
  3. Use headsets only when you need to focus. You must be aware and responsive, and constantly having headphone on or ear buds in, reduces your ability to be so. Besides when they are in your ears, others can see you as uninvolved or disconnected, and that’s not a good look.
  4. Always choose personal conservation. Never make music a higher priority than colleagues. If someone comes into your office, or stops at your desk for a quick question, quickly remove your headsets for the conversation. Don’t keep one in while talking to others. Make it a priority to remove both era buds and turn off the music completely so that people know you are giving them your full attention.
    Thanks for you time. Let’s grow more and keep winning, and chasing those dreams. A blessed week ahead to you all. Till then,
    I remain yours truly,
    Mugibson.
